Typical applications are found in the automotive industry, for example in crash-relevant structural parts, A and B pillars, seat structures, sills and exposed components. The material is also widely used in the construction and household appliance industry, for example in roof and facade elements, doors, ventilation ducts, household appliance and control cabinets. Other areas of application include the production of tubes, structural members and modular shelving systems in which high dimensional stability and long-term corrosion protection are required. Steels for hot forming

Press-hardening steels for hot forming are available in various strengths and are coated with zinc or zinc-iron. Best crash behavior, high dimensional accuracy and very good joining properties are the hallmarks of components made of these materials.

Metallic coatings

  • Zinc (Z) for applications subject to average corrosion (galvanized)
  • Zinc-iron (ZF) for corrosion protection with highest weldability requirements (galvannealed)
  • Zinc-magnesium (ZM) for best cathodic corrosion protection (corrender®)

corrender® is the high-performance zinc-magnesium-aluminum coating made by voestalpine.

The corrender® surface achieves a significantly higher corrosion resistance than conventional galvanized steel strip, despite its reduced layer thickness. The surface is characterized by excellent forming properties, minimized friction and efficient postprocessing.

Surface quality

Hot-dip galvanized steel strip is available in a variety of surface finishes from standard to improved surfaces. For example in the automotive industry, the best exposed components with minimum waviness and high contour sharpness provide an ideal solution for particularly demanding applications.

From simple sections to complex deep-drawn parts

The comprehensive steel grade program makes cold-rolled steel strip a genuine all-rounder. These materials are used in applications ranging from simple sections to complex deep-drawn parts. Cold-rolled steel strip is used in the household appliance industry in washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers, refrigerators, ranges and hot water tanks. Cold-rolled steels are also used in the radiator industry, the automotive industry (car body parts with low corrosion stress), the packaging industry and the tube and section industry.
