alzen® - the alloy without lead

For the reduction of your CO2-footprint

alzen® 305 is a zinc-based alloy (ZnAlCu) developed by voestalpine without the addition of lead, which is primarily suitable for use as a bearing material and also offers other possibilities and advantages.

Compared to lead-containing red castings, this sustainable lead substitute is characterised by comparable mechanical and tribological properties, significantly lower density and a good price-performance ratio.

With alzen® 305, we are expanding our material portfolio in the Foundry Group and creating additional options for customised castings in all segments.

Advantages

  • High load capacity of the ZnAlCu alloy
  • Excellent emergency running property & wear-resistant

Made for harshest conditions

Whether in the Gulf of Mexico, in the North Sea or the Arctic, our thermomechanically rolled structural steels for the offshore industry are used worldwide. We deliver high-quality offshore structural steels for fixed and floating offshore platforms according to offshore standards EN 10225 (including NORSOK) and API as well as to a variety of other international standards and specifications.

Offshore plates for oil & gas

Our offshore plates for the oil & gas industry are used worldwide under the harshest conditions. Living continuous development of new products to meet more stringent requirements, we are able to provide prequalified arctic steel for extremely low temperatures. Using toughcore® TMCP plates with extreme high toughness, you are able to increase the level of safety for your offshore structure up to 140 mm thickness.

High-quality plates for efficient electric power generation

Larger monopiles require higher unit weights in cylindrical and tapered pipe lengths. We achieve these weights by welding together two to three plates and call the new unit an XL plate. This highly efficient and innovative welding technique utilizes a four-wire submerged arc welding system capable of producing up to 60-ton unit weights.

These heavy units meet the growing requirements of offshore wind parks.

High-strength plates

As structures and machines become larger, the stresses in the components increase. High-strength steels with minimum yield strengths of 700 MPa or even higher up to 1100 MPa are capable of supporting these higher stresses and simultaneously lead to a decrease in the weight of structural members.

Thermomechanically rolled high-strength fine-grained steels combine excellent toughness with a very low carbon content and the low carbon equivalent and for an optimized weldability.

Shipbuilding steel plates

Our shipbuilding steel plates in normal and high-strength grades are used in offshore applications, platform  superstructures and for special ships in the oil and gas industries, such as floating production storage and offloading vessels (FPSO) and even stainless steel clad plates for icebreakers.

We offer a wide range of dimensions and grades with best workability for ship manufacture, especially for welding: steel grades up to FH 36 and plates up to 140 mm thick and 3,950 mm wide. High-strength shipbuilding plates are certified e.g. by ABS in FQ70 up to 101.6 mm (4").

Chords & racks

In addition to supplying heavy plates, heads and cones, we produce specific pressed parts for the offshore industry. In a specially designed production process, we manufacture high-strength hot-formed components called chords for jack-up rigs. Additionally we offer extremely thick plates for gear racks.

Made for the toughest tasks

Some industries are what steel was made for. The world of machinery is one of them. Steel made by voestalpine is perfectly within its comfort zone where highest mechanical loads and high-tech materials come together in highly sophisticated designs. Technical limits are constantly being pushed upward by further developments and innovations. Best processability and increasingly demanding mechanical properties lead to complex designs that leave nothing to be desired in terms of performance and efficiency. Steel can be used in the most diverse applications. Wear resistance, ultra-high strengths and high quality in any case.

Exploring new frontiers

What would our daily life be like without machines? Very different, that's for sure. The invention of effective new tools has always been a way of overcoming our limitations, and we are still creating innovative materials to push the limits even further. At voestalpine, we have proven this again and again with new and optimized products. Expertise from a wide range of highly innovative industries is bundled and engineered into materials and solutions for machinery, equipment and vehicles. The solutions are not only convincing in the lab, and they open new possibilities by increasing efficiency in design, production and use.

Consistently reduced weight

When high strength is no longer sufficient. With alform®, voestalpine offers an ultra-high-strength material to be used in combination with the alform® welding system to produce ultra-high-strength weld joints. A reduction in material thickness of more than 70% without compromising any performance results in a weight savings that goes hand in hand with substantially increased efficiency. Best cutability, best forming behavior and excellent toughness round off this power package.

Safely increased efficiency

The demands on the materials used in modern engineering are enormous. Perfect workability during the production process must not be a contradiction to maximum wear resistance and economy of use. With durostat®, voestalpine has succeeded in more than just meeting these requirements. One of the safest, most robust and efficient materials, durostat® boasts of highest durability in abrasive applications, enormous weight savings when compared to conventional structural steels, hardness second to none thanks to a specially developed direct hardening process, best cold formability thanks to fine-grained microstructure and high degree of purity, and best weldability thanks to the optimized carbon equivalent.

The skipster is the true winner in lightness and stability.

alform® makes many things lighter. The thermomechanically rolled (TM) material combines lightness with stability like no other, making it the perfect candidate for countless applications where high load capacity and low weight are essential. This applies to high-tech and complex machinery as well as comparatively simple containers.

TransANT railway freight cars made of high-strength alform® steel

Rail Cargo Group (RCG) was looking for a lightweight design that would meet the logistics requirements of the 21st century. The subsidiary of ÖBB has many years of valuable experience in freight transports and is part of a very strong international network. Coupled with the material expertise of voestalpine, a future-oriented design has now been developed with TransANT. This could be a revolution in railway freight car design.

Customer-oriented partnerships and tailored solutions in the steel construction industry

Our thermomechanically rolled steel grades and weather-resistant structural steels set benchmarks with respect to their best processing properties and consistently high quality. They are the key to efficient steel structures and provide potentially high savings in welding and maintenance. Industryspecific material and manufacturing expertise, comprehensive preprocessing possibilities, reliability and relationships based on trust make us a trusted partner to the European steel construction industry.

We supply higher strength & lighter weight

alform® heavy plates find their applications wherever high workability and weldability coupled with high strength and weight savings are in demand. Utilization of the higher yield strength of high-strength fine-grained steels as opposed to conventional structural steels results in lower cross-sections. This leads on the one hand to cost savings in lower component weights as well as reduced expenditures for transports, assembly, foundations, component manufacturing, especially in welding as a result of minimized seam cross-sections.

Elimination of paint coating and maintenance

The alloying of small amounts of phosphorus, copper, nickel, chromium or molybdenum leads to the formation of a protective layer on weather-resistant steel outdoors. This layer protects the steel from further corrosion. Weather-resistant structural steels thus provide cost advantages as no anti-corrosion coating or maintenance required of the protective coating is required.

Extreme sour service and corrosion resistance

Roll-bonded clad plates are used for the manufacturing of clad linepipes. In many cases the mixture of oil, gas and a wide range of chemical elements in riserpipes or linepipes used for the transport of oil and gas formes a highly corrosive environment. Only the highest-quality materials are capable of withstanding this aggressive medium. Our roll-bonded clad linepipe plates with corrosion-resistant cladding meet these highest corrosion requirements.

Extremely low arctic temperatures and harsh environmental conditions

We are there with land lines up to 48 inches (1,220 mm) in diameter.

We provide excellent toughness at low temperatures and our service is tailored to the individual customer from the time the order is received until the material is loaded for on-time shipment and delivery.
