23 June 2026 |

Following a renovation period lasting around 23 months, voestalpine Stahlwelt at the Linz site will have a completely new look from June 2026 onwards. The entire exhibition area has undergone a comprehensive modernization in terms of architecture, technology, and content. With a total investment of around EUR 20 million, the Group has fully updated its approach to showcasing steel production, further processing, technology, innovation, and sustainability.

The central element of the exhibition concept is known as the Grid, a suspended, walk-through structure that forms the spatial and thematic backbone of the new exhibition. The open and interconnected system illustrates the Group’s central themes: technological aspiration, innovative strength, and the transition to steel production with net zero CO2 emissions. The structure connects content, exhibits, and visitors with one another. Approximately 8,500 individually controllable LED light points are distributed across the entire Grid, enabling dynamic lighting effects. A total of around 138 tons of steel was used in the construction, including about 40 tons of the CO2-reduced greentec steel Edition. By optimizing the manufacturing process at its Linz site, the Group can already save around ten percent of direct emissions with its CO2-reduced version.

The modernized voestalpine Stahlwelt showcases what we stand for as a globally active steel and technology Group: innovation, sustainability, and the highest level of technological expertise. It provides an impressive display of our entire range of services and the importance of our products in everyday life.

Implementation of the exhibition concept by internal and external partners

The Grid was constructed by voestalpine at its Krems site. The individual Grid elements were prefabricated as “trees” up to 13 meters tall at the Krems plant, transported to Linz, and installed with millimeter precision at the voestalpine Stahlwelt—a challenge in terms of logistics and construction.

The new voestalpine Stahlwelt was conceived and designed by the international firm ATELIER BRÜCKNER from Stuttgart, which has also implemented projects such as the Tutankhamun Gallery at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the BMW Museum in Munich.

A forward-looking exhibition for all generations

The redesign has also increased the exhibition’s flexibility: content can now be updated more quickly and developed with greater precision. Across a total of five levels, the exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of the Group, its global presence, innovations & future technologies, steel production, greentec steel, further processing, products, as well as the work and living environment of voestalpine for all generations.

Hubert Zajicek

The new Stahlwelt combines architecture, technology, and content in one holistic experience. With the Grid as the central element, we have developed an exhibition concept that connects our themes with one another and offers visitors an interactive way to engage with voestalpine.

Hubert Zajicek, Member of the Management Board at voestalpine AG and Head of the Steel Division

Around 750,000 people have already visited voestalpine Stahlwelt since the original exhibition opened in 2009. The new exhibition combines traditional content in a modern digital context. Visitors are provided with a tablet that enables multimedia experiences. Interactive stations can also be used to clearly explain complex topics.
