Lower Austria is an important location for voestalpine. In Krems, for instance, the Metal Forming Division of the globally leading steel and technology group develops high-quality steel profiles, which are used in warehousing systems all over the world, among other applications. The commitment in this year’s Grafenegg Festival highlights this connection: technologies developed and produced in Lower Austria are now successfully used in international markets.

Through its commitment to the Grafenegg Festival, voestalpine is once again underlining the importance of its Lower Austrian sites. As a leading company and key employer, the Group employs around 2,100 people in Lower Austria. In addition, the headquarters of the Metal Forming Division is located in Krems.

We manufacture high-quality steel tubes and sections, innovative road restraint systems, racking systems, precision strip steel, and state-of-the-art turnouts in Lower Austria and supply them to customers all over the world. Our commitment in Grafenegg thus exemplifies an approach that combines regional responsibility with an international perspective: Lower Austria as a strong industrial location and at the same time a starting point for global value creation and technological advancement.

Regional and international flagship projects

The high-bay warehouse systems segment in particular is experiencing very strong development. voestalpine is currently implementing a record number of projects, being executed simultaneously across seven countries in four different time zones. A flagship project for NÖM AG was completed successfully in Lower Austria only recently. The warehouse, which has a height of over 30 meters, will be cooled to a constant 4°C once it enters operation in order to meet the requirements of fresh-food logistics.

The project for NÖM AG combines local partnership between equals with innovative strength made in Austria and underscores both companies’ commitment to ‘made in Austria’. At the same time, our highly sophisticated warehouse systems are in demand worldwide—we are among the leading providers in this segment.

One example is another recently completed project in Portugal: a special warehouse was realized in the Portuguese mountains, where installation was particularly challenging due to the demanding environmental conditions. The Group also secured the largest order for high-bay warehousing systems in its history not long ago, namely a contract worth some EUR 41 million in total for a logistics service provider in Türkiye. A modern, 40-meter-tall logistics hub for sporting goods is being built by April 2027 in Istanbul. voestalpine high-bay warehouses from Krems have been realized on five continents.

voestalpine among main sponsors of the Grafenegg Festival for the first time

The 20th Grafenegg Festival is currently under way as one of the cultural highlights of the summer in Lower Austria. Involved in this year’s event as one of its main sponsors for the first time, voestalpine has devised a format, the “voestalpine Symphosium” (from “symposium” + “symphony”), that combines economic dialogue with musical elements under the tagline “Welt außer Takt. Zukunft neu denken” (“World out of sync. Rethinking the future”). High-caliber experts, including renowned China specialist Jörg Wuttke and philosopher Lisz Hirn, are discussing the challenges and opportunities of a world in transformation. As a global steel and technology group, voestalpine is likewise faced with an environment shaped by uncertainties, that it is tackling with its successful local-for-local strategy.
