In-depth study of metallurgical fundamentals: microstructure and properties of metals and alloys, and phase diagrams with a focus on the iron-carbon system . The production and classification of steels in accordance with ISO 10020 and  ISO/TR 15608, as well as heat treatment and ZTU diagrams, provide the necessary expertise for a sound materials engineering assessment.

Be able to describe the effects of heat input, cooling rate and multi-pass welding on the solidification of the weld metal and the microstructure formation of a single-pass weld compared to a multi-pass weld.

Target group: Application engineering, welding supervisors, welding technicians
Qualification level: Advanced

Objective:

To deepen specialist knowledge of the microstructure and properties of metals and iron-carbon alloys, as well as the production and classification of steels in accordance with ISO 10020 , and ISO/TR 15608

Agenda:

  • Microstructures and properties of metals
  • Alloys and phase diagrams
  • Iron-carbon alloys
  • Production and classification of steels
  • Heat treatment of base materials and welded joints
  • Interpreting and applying ZTU diagrams
