Night of Welding at WIFI Linz: An evening full of innovation and hands-on practice

14 July 2026 |

On June 17, WIFI Linz welcomed around 80 welding enthusiasts to the “Night of Welding.” Organized in collaboration with voestalpine Böhler Welding and WIFI, the event delivered a compelling mix of expert talks, live demonstrations, and valuable networking opportunities.

Technical focus: wear protection and repair solutions

The evening opened with a practice-oriented presentation by UTP, which explored the topics of wear, repair, and corrosion protection in depth. The session highlighted the wide range of applications covered by UTP in the field of repair welding – from conventional maintenance work to advanced protection solutions for highly demanding environments. A particular highlight was the repair of a cast iron engine block, illustrated through images from a real-world application.

Hands-on experience: four interactive stations

Participants had the opportunity to explore different welding technologies and applications first-hand across four interactive stations, guided by experts and supported by live demonstrations.

Pipeline welding with pipeRunner®

  • At this station, mechanized orbital welding was demonstrated using the TERRA 400 PRM in combination with our diamondspark flux-cored wires and the pipeRunner®. Participants gained practical insights into efficient pipeline welding solutions, particularly for fill and cap passes.

Collaborative robotics

  • This station showcased automated welding using a collaborative robot (Dobot) in combination with our URANOS NX 5000 GS power source. It clearly demonstrated how easily automation can be integrated into existing processes and highlighted its benefits in terms of quality and productivity.

Robotic welding cell “WELDI”

  • In collaboration with Feiba Engineering & Plants GmbH (Traun), the new WELDI robotic welding cell was presented. Developed by Feiba Engineering & Plants GmbH, WELDI combines technologies from leading partners in robotics, welding, and AI-supported robot programming. Böhler Welding’s expertise and equipment played a key role in its realization. Participants experienced first-hand how standardized automation solutions are implemented in practice.

Manual welding station with UTP electrodes and CORE MMA

  • This station focused on manual welding. Using UTP electrodes such as UTP 65 D and our CORE MMA solutions, participants had the opportunity to get hands-on experience and see the performance of these solutions in repair and wear protection applications.

    Networking and exchange

The “Night of Welding” concluded with an enjoyable get-together featuring dinner and drinks. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants deepened discussions, exchanged experiences, and built new connections – an essential element for knowledge sharing within the welding community.

The event once again demonstrated the importance of direct exchange between users, experts, and technology providers.

We would like to sincerely thank all participants as well as WIFI Linz for the excellent collaboration, and we are already looking forward to the next “Night of Welding.”
