Expert Interview Reveals Importance of Equipment Usability for Welding Industry

5 June 2023 |

We recently had the opportunity to speak with Andrea Ziliani, a welding demonstrator at voestalpine Böhler Welding, about the topic of Equipment & Usability in the welding industry. According to Ziliani, with the inclusion of new technologies in the most recent welding machines, it has become easier to make these machines more attractive and interesting for customers.

As a technician and welding demonstrator, Ziliani's daily tasks include providing welding demonstrations, assistance and customer training for welding machines and collaborative robots. He believes that the interface with welding machines needs to be easy to use to make the work of the welder more efficient and productive.

voestalpine Böhler Welding's goal with regard to Equipment & Usability is to invest in the production of new and higher performance solutions, making the use of machines easier and more efficient. However, challenges still remain in the field, particularly in developing robotics and software to increase speed and mechanical resistance, and finding welding systems that heat the base material less.

In Ziliani's opinion, the most important welding applications in the immediate future will be robotic ones, as easy-to-use machines reduce programming time and increase earnings for both manufacturers and customers. Looking forward, he predicts that software and the electronic management of welding machines will continue to improve, making them more intuitive and easier to use. Additionally, he foresees the invention of new ways to make welding machines more attractive, with higher performance and low environmental impact.

Overall, Ziliani's insights shed light on the importance of Equipment & Usability for the welding industry, as well as the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
