The first-class training of the company’s own young professionals has a long tradition at voestalpine. With the opening of the new voestalpine BÖHLER CAMPUS at the Styrian location in Kapfenberg, the steel and technology group is now setting a strong example for the quality and future of teaching. The new campus combines state-of-the-art living with a future-oriented education. Located directly next to the new residential complex with 60 fully equipped apartments for apprentices, the voestalpine BÖHLER training center in Kapfenberg offers practical specialist training—currently in 12 future-oriented technical professions—at the highest level.

Targeted support of young professionals is a central component of voestalpine’s corporate strategy.

Herbert Eibensteiner

In economically challenging times, we are consciously focusing on training young people, whose knowledge and motivation will secure voestalpine’s innovative strength and competitiveness in the long run. With a training budget of more than EUR 100,000 per apprentice, our state-of-the-art training centers, and facilities like the new voestalpine BÖHLER CAMPUS, we are creating an environment that promotes technological expertise and personal development in equal measure.

Education and housing at the Kapfenberg location

Around 300 young people are currently completing their apprenticeship at the voestalpine site in Kapfenberg. An innovative training concept for digital technologies and projects such as the “digital miniature factory” prepare young professionals for connected and automated working environments, such as those found in the new special steel plant. In the competition for the best talent, voestalpine has now created a unique residential concept located directly next to the training center, primarily to enable young people from more distant regions to pursue a future-oriented apprenticeship in Kapfenberg.

The campus combines modern teaching concepts with a high-quality living space, thereby strengthening the long-term appeal of apprenticeships at the Kapfenberg site.

High-quality facilities and a wide range of leisure activities

The first apprentices moved into the new voestalpine BÖHLER CAMPUS at the start of their training in September. A total of 60 fully furnished, modern single apartments with a living space of 25 m² to 30 m² and private bathrooms are available for apprentices aged 15 and above. Several social zones invite residents to chat, relax, and linger. In addition, indoor and outdoor activity areas such as a fitness room and a soccer field offer a wide range of leisure activities. A four-person educational team organizes joint activities and ensures a supportive and pleasant atmosphere on campus. The young residents can also take advantage of an optional meal plan with breakfast and lunch from the nearby Hotel Böhlerstern. Accommodation on campus is free of charge during the first year of training. From the second year onwards, a staggered monthly fee is charged.

Apprenticeship at voestalpine

Around 1,600 apprentices are currently completing their training in the voestalpine Group worldwide, 1,070 of them in Austria. With the start of the new training year on September 1, 2025, 160 young people began their apprenticeships at the international steel and technology group’s Styrian locations. In addition to professional qualifications, voestalpine places great importance on the personal development of its up-and-coming talent.
