Innovation at InnoTrans 2026: UniAC[2] sets new benchmarks as a contribution to standardized, EULYNX-oriented signalling systems

30 June 2026 |

At InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin, voestalpine Railway Systems presents UniAC[2], a modern axle counting system consistently designed in line with the principles of modular, standardized, and interoperable signalling technology. The focus is on supporting a EULYNX-compliant system architecture, enabling long-term investment protection and seamless multi-vendor integration.

Modular system design as a basis for EULYNX integration

The UniAC[2] system is based on a clearly structured separation into functional components. The UniAS[2] wheel sensor ensures reliable wheel detection in the field, even under demanding environmental conditions, while the AXM module provides the safety-related evaluation, counting logic, and system integration.

This functional separation aligns with EULYNX objectives of structuring systems along well-defined interfaces. The architecture enables a clear allocation of functions and supports integration into standardized signalling and interlocking environments.

Standardized interfaces and reduced system complexity

A key focus of the system is the use of standardized interfaces combined with a consistent system logic. UniAC[2] thereby supports core EULYNX principles: reduction of interface diversity, clear system boundaries, and simplified maintenance of system components.

Pre-configured system components and plug-and-play capability help to minimize integration effort and facilitate implementation into existing or new digital interlocking architectures. This approach reduces dependencies on proprietary solutions and supports interoperable system landscapes.

High operational availability through standardized maintenance concepts

During operation, UniAC[2] addresses key requirements of modern infrastructure managers. Hot-swappable modules allow the replacement of components without additional configuration steps, contributing to high system availability and reduced maintenance effort in line with EULYNX-oriented system environments.

Thanks to its modular design, the system can be flexibly extended. New counting points can be integrated without fundamental changes to existing system structures – a key aspect for scalable and future-proof railway infrastructures.

Contribution to open and future-proof signalling systems

With the SIL4-certified UniAC[2] axle counting system, voestalpine Railway Systems demonstrates at InnoTrans 2026 how modern axle counting solutions are evolving towards open, standards-based architectures. The combination of functional modularity, standardized interfaces, and high operational availability supports the long-term objectives of EULYNX: interoperability, flexibility, and sustainable system integration.

InnoTrans is considered THE most important international trade fair for transport technology and takes place every two years at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. To mark its 30th anniversary, voestalpine Railway Systems, the leading global provider of complete railway infrastructure systems, will be showcasing her latest developments in digital system solutions.
