Our ballast wagons in Belgium

17 October 2017 |

A set of 40 hoppers- Fccpps wagons - are back in Hilversum after their successful deployment in Belgium. During a period of more than two months, Strukton Rail used the wagons for the renewal of the ballast at Ternat in Belgium, in track section 50A between Brussels - Anderlecht. During this renewal no less than 25,000 tonnes of ballast with dimensions of 31,50 - 50 were unloaded.

Logistical optimization

The ballast was taken out of the Quenast quarry and unloaded a mere 30 kilometres away. After which they commuted between the quarry and the workplace. There couldn't have been a more efficient process. TUC Rail was the carrier of the wagons and took care of the logistics using its locomotives. At the same time they were the client and the supervisor of this project. TUC RAIL is an engineering and project management firm specializing in railway technology with Infrabel as sole shareholder, the manager of the Belgian rail infrastructure, in the same manner we are familiar with ProRail in the Netherlands.

User-friendly Fccpps

The employees of Strukton Rail in Belgium are very satisfied with our Fccpps wagons: "The ballast was unloaded accurately and well dosed, both within and beside the track." Strukton Rail would also like to use our new dust suppressing system wagons in Belgium in the future. The working conditions are improved significantly because a specially developed moistening system reduces the dust formation of the harmful quartz dust. Currently, the wagons are only used in the Netherlands in accordance with current agreements with ProRail and the railway contractors. We are open to the opportunity of realizing this qualitative concept with new parties and would gladly get in touch to discuss the possibilities. Please contact our export manager to find out more.
