660 km track network, 250 km/h maximum speed. The Green Line is Egypt’s first fully electrified mainline and freight network and stretches from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean.

The scope of supply includes 219 turnouts and 144 rail expansion joints to bridge temperature-related changes in track length on bridges and viaducts.

It quickly became clear that voestalpine Railway Systems, with its high-speed turnouts, offered the optimum products for the customer's requirements. The moving parts of the turnout glide over special rollers without lubricant, which means that no desert sand, which would otherwise act like sandpaper and lead to high wear, sticks.

The switches not only have to keep up with the speed of the high-speed line, but also with the enormous pace of the overall project. The fact that voestalpine Railway Systems can supply such complex components within a short time was a key factor in winning the contract.
