Discovering technology: Children’s Day of the Upper Austrian Industry

In the Welios Wels and in the Ars Electronica Linz, for two days, everything revolved around MINT, i.e. mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology. The young participants were not only attentive listeners: they were introduced to production processes and products, solved practical tasks and were able to try out technology for themselves. “Build your own electric motors” was particularly practical: Under the instruction of voestalpine, several of the children were able to lend a hand and experience how technology works.

The Children’s Day thus shows how early enthusiasm for natural sciences and technology can be sparked at an early age. This is also precisely where the MINT network comes in: By bringing together education, industry, and research, it combines events and activities that bring children and young people closer to technical topics and injects new energy and enthusiasm.

Early openness to MINT can help young people to recognize career opportunities in technical professions when making future career choices. At the same time, it makes an important contribution to counteracting the shortage of skilled workers in the MINT sector and attracting highly qualified professionals to Upper Austria as a business location.
