Large-scale order for heavy plates
voestalpine Grobblech GmbH, a company in the Steel Division, is pleased to have landed a new large-scale order for pipeline plates. 95,000 tons of high-quality linepipe plates have been ordered for the IGD-E natural gas project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
In order to meet the annual demand in natural gas production for Abu Dhabi, a volume that increases by 15% each year, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates will be erecting a 114-km-long high-pressure IGD-E line over the next two years in order to supply natural gas from the Arabian Gulf.
In the course of this construction, voestalpine Grobblech GmbH will be supplying its long-term partner Jindal SAW, a pipeline producer with headquarters in India, with 95,000 tons of high-strength, sour-gas-resistant linepipe plates of the highest quality. The material will be processed by the partner company on site into pipes with an approximate diameter of one meter for the project.
The linepipe plates must be manufactured of the highest quality because the pipes are exposed to especially high operating pressure. Their wall thickness ranges from 42 to 46 mm and must meet the required strength and toughness specifications within the narrowest of tolerances.
Only few producers throughout the world can meet these stringent specifications.
