voestalpine Railway Systems Nortrak is a part of the voestalpine Railway Systems Group, the world-market leader in railway systems. We provide custom design and manufacture of railway system solutions encompassing special trackwork, concrete ties, switch machines, premium rail, direct fixation fasteners, rail pads, insulators, castings and plastic moldings. We are an American railroad company and serve the entire North American market including the freight, industrial, light rail, streetcar, heavy rail, commuter and high-speed segments.

  • Founded in 1981 as Nortrak Railway Supply Ltd., the company began its journey in British Columbia, Canada, supplying new and used railroad track components to meet the growing needs of North American railroads. Just two years later, in 1983, Nortrak took a major step forward by manufacturing trackwork at its Richmond, BC facility—marking the start of its reputation for quality and innovation.

    In 1990, Nortrak entered a new era when Voest-Alpine Eisenbahnsysteme of Austria acquired a shareholding in the company. This partnership brought advanced European technology and expertise to the North American market, and Nortrak became VAE Nortrak Ltd. Over time, Voest-Alpine Eisenbahnsysteme evolved into voestalpine Railway Systems GmbH, part of the global voestalpine AG group.

    Today, as voestalpine Railway Systems Nortrak, we combine our strong local heritage with the resources of a worldwide leader in rail technology. With over 160 years of trackwork experience within the voestalpine Group and sister companies in more than 26 countries, we are uniquely positioned to deliver cutting-edge solutions backed by deep industry knowledge.
