Wind power components require high-performance BÖHLER steels with excellent fatigue, toughness, and corrosion resistance. Key quality features include ultra-clean materials, full traceability, controlled heat treatment, and rigorous testing for reliable wind turbine operation.
Wind power components such as main shafts, bearings, gears, and fasteners are exposed to highly dynamic loads, fluctuating temperatures, and harsh environmental conditions including humidity, salt spray, and offshore atmospheres. Material requirements are therefore focused on high fatigue strength, fracture toughness, corrosion resistance, and long-term reliability under cyclic loading. Resistance to stress corrosion cracking and wear is essential to ensure safe and efficient turbine operation over extended service lifetimes.
BÖHLER high-performance steels and alloys are specifically engineered to meet the demanding requirements of wind energy applications. Advanced low-alloy and quenched and tempered steels provide excellent strength-to-toughness ratios, while stainless and corrosion-resistant grades ensure durability in aggressive environments. Produced using advanced melting technologies, BÖHLER materials offer superior cleanliness and homogeneous microstructures, reducing fatigue crack initiation and improving component lifetime. Key quality features include precise control of chemical composition, full traceability, and validated heat treatment processes. Comprehensive testing, including non-destructive inspection and mechanical verification, ensures reliability and compliance with industry standards. BÖHLER solutions support efficient, durable, and safe wind turbine operation.
