“Langer Tag der Energie” 2026

25 June 2026, 09:30 |

The experts at the voestalpine site in Donawitz offered an in-depth interactive tour during the “Langer Tag der Energie”. The guided tours were fully booked, and the behind-the-scenes tour provided insights into current and future energy supply.

As part of the decarbonisation process – that is, the reduction of CO2 emissions during the production process – renewable energy sources, such as hydropower, wind power and photovoltaics, play a vital role.

During a guided tour in Donawitz, 54 visitors were able to see for themselves: The focus was on the heart of the power station, Unit 01 – one of the most modern and powerful industrial power stations in Austria.
The ‘Dual-Fuel Motor’ 1 and 2 emergency power systems were also showcased. These are marine engines, each with 12 cylinders and a displacement of 32 litres, which help to ensure security of supply in the event of a crisis. Another key focus was the power station control room, which demonstrates just how far digitalisation has already progressed in this sector.
In addition, a total of 150 visitors gathered information at the information stands run by our energy partners – Energie Steiermark, Verbund and Windheimat – and gained fascinating insights into the energy supply at the Donawitz site.

Efficiency is what drives me, so I am particularly pleased that, as part of this event, we can present voestalpine as a pioneer in sustainability whilst also representing the entire region.

You can see how the energy transition is taking shape and how a large company like voestalpine is preparing for the future. It’s really exciting! It was a superbly organised day with a varied programme.

The last time I was at the plant was 18 years ago – on business back then. Today I was here with my family, and we really enjoyed it!

I took part in a voestalpine factory tour for the first time today and I’m absolutely thrilled! From a technical point of view, I found the event to be of a very high standard and really interesting – thank you!
