Fuel injection components require BÖHLER steels with high strength, wear, and corrosion resistance. Key quality features include ultra-clean materials, precise heat treatment, full traceability, and rigorous testing for reliable, high-precision automotive performance.
Fuel injection components in the automotive industry, such as injector nozzles, valves, and control elements, operate under extremely demanding conditions including high pressures, rapid cycling, and exposure to fuels with varying chemical compositions. Material requirements are therefore focused on high strength, excellent fatigue resistance, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance against aggressive fuels and combustion by-products. Precision and dimensional stability are critical to ensure optimal fuel atomization, efficiency, and reduced emissions over long service intervals.
BÖHLER high-performance steels and alloys are specifically engineered to meet these challenges. Advanced high-alloy steels, martensitic stainless steels, and specially optimized tool steels provide an ideal combination of hardness, toughness, and corrosion resistance. Produced using advanced melting and refining technologies, BÖHLER materials offer superior cleanliness, low inclusion levels, and a homogeneous microstructure, which significantly improves fatigue life and wear behavior. Key quality features include precise control of chemical composition, certified traceability, and tightly controlled heat treatment processes to achieve consistent mechanical and surface properties. Additional surface engineering processes further enhance wear resistance and performance. Comprehensive testing, including fatigue, corrosion, and non-destructive inspection, ensures reliable and repeatable performance. BÖHLER materials enable efficient, durable, and high-precision fuel injection systems.
BÖHLER N360 is a corrosion resistant, martensitic stainless steel, produced using the pressurized-ESR-process ( P-ESR) . Compared to conventionally produced Cr and CrMo steels, BÖHLER N360 offers improved corrosion resistance and toughness properties as well as high hardness and compressive strength. It is typically used for anti-friction bearing components e.g. bearings, ball screws and wear resistant components for use in the engineering and medical industry, e.g. knives and other cutting tools, shafts, plastic extrusion, screw driver, drills, fasteners and engine-components, requiring resistance to both corrosion and wear with hardness not lower than 58 HRC after hardening and tempering, but usage is not limited to such applications.

Produced via the electroslag remelting process (ESR), this tool steel has very high hot toughness as well as very high hot hardness and a very good resistance against heat-checkings. The combination of these properties makes it a top performer in closed- and open-die forging as well as in high- and low-pressure die casting. In addition, this material has very good polishability and is therefore also often used as a molding material for plastic injection molds.
