Why vacuum system performance matters
If die-cast components are heat treated with solution annealing, vacuum support is necessary, otherwise blistering will occur. Entrapped air and gases during die casting can lead to defects such as porosity, cold flow, and sink marks. Traditional filter systems often clog with flitter burs and other substances (e.g. residual release agents), resulting in unreliable vacuum measurements and costly downtime. The voestalpine Fin Filter addresses these issues, as outlined below.

Conventionally manufactured from premium materials by BÖHLER/Uddeholm, the voestalpine Chill Block provides the highest venting performance with maximum process reliability.
The patented wave design allows a gap size of up to 1.3 mm, significantly increasing the cross-sectional area for die evacuation compared to standard systems. This larger gap allows for higher process reliability and a reduction in maintenance and cleaning effort. Furthermore, ejection forces are strongly reduced, leading to easy ejection and less bonding in the venting area. These design and performance advantages enable a more reliable filling process, more consistent casting quality, and less maintenance effort.
