The challenge was to collect 1.1 million digital cares worth 700,000 euros. Thanks to the great commitment of our employees, the target was reached a week earlier than planned – on May 16. The result speaks for itself: a total of 1.1 million cares worth 700,000 euros were collected by 7,322 employees within eleven weeks through running, walking, hiking, handbiking and wheelchair cycling. It was not about record times or the longest distance, but about the joint effort of all participants.

Whether running together, taking part in running events or going for a walk during the lunch break – the voestalpine community motivated each other and achieved the donation target.

By taking part in the voestalpine cares run, our employees from all over the world have not only done something good for their health but have also set a social example. I am particularly pleased that, thanks to their great commitment, we have once again reached the maximum donation amount of EUR 700,000 for international aid projects

Making a difference together – thanks to the commitment of our employees, our cares run earned us the “Wirtschaft hilft Award”! Our initiative took first place in the “Large Companies” category in 2025.

Six specific aid projects are supported

The 700,000 euros raised will benefit six international and national donation projects:

  • UNICEF’s “1 Million Opportunities” initiative gives young people in Brazil access to high-quality education, for example through training programs in mechanical engineering, logistics or metalworking.
  • UNICEF is now creating safe learning opportunities and access to (non-)formal education for children also in frontline regions through 50 Digital Learning Centers in Ukraine.
  • The RISK emergency disaster relief kits from Médecins Sans Frontières are “mini operating theaters” that enable injured people to be treated quickly in areas that are difficult to access.
  • In many countries – such as Tanzania and Chad – MSF uses Toyota Land Cruisers specially equipped with radio and protective equipment to reach the affected areas in emergency situations such as conflicts, food crises and water shortages.
  • Hilfswerk International’s Help Points offer low-threshold and immediate support in Ukraine, including the distribution of food and everyday products in areas affected by the war.
  • In learning houses and through learning support at schools, the Austrian Red Cross looks after minors whose families are dependent on free learning support.

The handover of the donations is planned for summer 2025.

The worldwide and active participation of 7,322 voestalpine Group employees in the voestalpine cares run demonstrates internationality and global cohesion. From China to North America, from Finland to South Africa – our employees have proven that they pull together and assume social responsibility worldwide.
