It was clear to Lisa E. early on that she wanted to pursue a technical career, as she was fascinated by machines and hands-on work. At the training center of our Steel Division in Linz, she completed the “apprenticeship with Matura” in mechanical engineering/production technology. How did she manage that? In her final year of apprenticeship, she began the English module of the vocational maturity exam and completed the German and math courses while working. Finally, Lisa passed the departmental exam as part of her foreman training in mechanical engineering/operations technology and completed everything with outstanding results—a #FavoriteMoment!
Lisa has been part of the team at Cold Rolling Mill 3 (KWW3) at our voestalpine Stahl GmbH for 14 years. As one of the few employees, she knows all the processes on the rolling line inside and out and understands what matters most. From the main control station, she oversees the rolling line. At the inspection station, she manually grinds the steel sheets and checks their quality. The overhead cranes are also part of her work area—as is the exit area, where the finished rolled coils are prepared for further transport. When colleagues take their snack breaks or are on vacation, Lisa flexibly steps in and takes over their workstations. It’s precisely this variety and the daily interaction with her 19 colleagues that make her workday a #FavoriteMoment for her.
Her deep understanding of all the workstations in the cold rolling mill is one of her strengths, which she continues to put to use even after her maternity leave. Lisa works part-time and keeps a close eye on which of her colleagues are on vacation or out sick. She readily takes over those shifts and, in the process, flexibly resolves organizational bottlenecks. For the technician, this flexible scheduling is another #FavoriteMoment she loves to talk about. Trust and reliability are the foundation for this and key values.
In her personal life, Lisa runs a layer hen farm with her husband, which includes about 12,000 hens as well as meadows, fields, and wooded areas. This hands-on woman finds the balance between family life, farm life, and life at the steel mill very rewarding, and Lisa emphasizes: For her, her job is far more than just work—it’s part of her identity and her life.
