When companies can rely on each other, stable industrial value creation is created. This reliability is also a central basis for our cooperation within the Metal Engineering Division of voestalpine. As voestalpine Wire Technology, we contribute to group-wide processes as a supplier of raw materials – with the aim of translating our wire expertise, innovation, and industrial scaling into specific customer benefits.
We play a connecting role within the group: sister companies such as Italfil (voestalpine Böhler Welding) and voestalpine Fastening Systems and Travertec (voestalpine Railway Systems) rely on our wire solutions. The aim of this cooperation is to efficiently coordinate supply chains, ensure consistent quality, and support predictable growth.
Together, we leverage our cross‑divisional expertise – and offer our customers consistently high material quality from a single source.
Our raw materials are processed into various end products at our sister companies, including solid wires for welding applications and clips and tension wires for use in railway infrastructure. The internal applications within the Group also provide experience and references that are relevant for external customers in comparable fields of application.
Growth is an essential part of the strategy in the fastening division of voestalpine Railway Systems. A reliable supply of raw materials is an important prerequisite for this, both in terms of defined material properties and the quantities required.
Travertec, part of the voestalpine Railway Systems Group, has been using our prestressed steel wires for reinforcing turnout sleepers for several years. The wires are tailored to the respective mechanical requirements and support the durability and performance of modern railway systems.
Cooperation has also been gradually expanded in the area of rail fastening: Since entering clip production, voestalpine Fastening Systems has been purchasing pre-material from us. With the new fully automatic clip line, demand is expected to increase in the coming years.
Another example of internal synergies is the collaboration with Italfil, the manufacturer of welding wire within the voestalpine Böhler Welding Group.
Italfil processes several tons of wire rod per year into welding wires for various applications - and this figure is continuing to rise. An increasing proportion of the raw material used comes from our own production facilities.
In welding technology in particular, consistent material properties are crucial for achieving reproducible welding results. That is why we coordinate the technical requirements with Italfil for each application – from specification and qualification to ongoing process stability.
This allows us to make the most of our expertise, keep value creation in-house, and jointly strengthen our competitiveness.
The examples from voestalpine Railway Systems and voestalpine Böhler Welding show the role we play within the Group: as a reliable source of raw materials and as a technical partner along the value chain.
