voestalpine Wire Germany: Customized wire solution becomes a series success

The starting point for the joint alloy development was a detailed specification for a customized wire solution. A specific customer need or strategic customer request for a reliable and safer second supplier brought the customer to voestalpine Wire Germany, a company of the Wire Technology business unit. The customer needed a wire in a specific, non-standard grade for subsequent cold forming and processing into tool components.

It was only with a test batch from the TechMet of the voestalpine Forschungsservice Gesellschaft that these desired results could be achieved. In the course of an add-on batch in the steel mill, the positive results were then confirmed in close coordination between Wire Technology application engineering and the customer. The well-known customer was visibly satisfied with the commitment of the Wire Technology specialists, which was ultimately also reflected in a follow-up order for this special melt.

With the Metallurgy Laboratory (MetLab) and the Technical Center Metallurgy (TechMet), our customers have access to two research facilities that are unique in the world and can be used to test and innovate new alloys on a very small scale. Individual analyses are possible in a short time. In the MetLab, for example, it is possible to obtain laboratory samples for pre-tests from 8 kg to a maximum of 50 kg. Based on this, individual 5-ton billets can be cast in the TechMet to test processability in the hot rolling mill and provide initial customer samples.
