ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning and is a common software solution that companies use to organize their various business processes. ERP systems are an integral part of today's working world and are constantly gaining in importance. User knowledge is in high demand and a prerequisite in numerous job profiles.
Johannes Kepler University Linz attaches great importance to preparing its students for the job market in the best possible way. For this reason, the first "ERP Summer" was held in July and September 2023 in cooperation with local IT companies. Five colleagues with ERP expertise from voestalpine group-IT and the Group were represented.
The aim of this summer course was to provide students with comprehensive practical know-how and to highlight the future relevance of ERP systems. After all, companies can derive important insights into their business processes from ERP system data and generate potential for improvement.
The voestalpine experts introduced the students to the topic of "Customizing" as part of the lecture "Application of ERP Systems II". Customizing refers to how an ERP system can be set up or adapted specifically to business processes. With practical examples and processes, the participants gained a good insight into the ERP world at voestalpine. Finally, the students were able to demonstrate their newly acquired knowledge in a practical case study task at voestalpine. In addition, the colleagues planned sufficient time for the questions of the interested parties.
The students were completely enthusiastic – but we as voestalpine group-IT also benefited: The ERPSummer was a great opportunity to present ourselves as an attractive IT employer to future JKU graduates.
The ERPSummer in September at the JKU was again a great and exciting day. Although, it is officially vacation time, the students are very interested and fully engaged in the practical exercises - so the presentation of the customizing examples from practice is really fun. I hope that there will be further editions of the course ERP Systems - Applications II.
