#FavoriteMoments for the Mobility of the Future
- 6
Cars are fascinating. They combine individual mobility with personal lifestyle. As a result, the latest models not only set the pace for current technological developments but also reflect the lifestyles of people around the world. The challenges facing partners in the automotive industry in terms of further development and innovation are correspondingly great.
Modern mobility places high demands on safety, sustainability, and efficiency. We support the automotive industry worldwide with innovative steel and system solutions—from lightweight construction and e-mobility to safety-critical components. This results in vehicles that are high-performance, resource-efficient, and cost-effective.
We support automakers and their suppliers with customized products, innovations, and the combined capabilities of our four divisions. Our products meet current requirements in line with the industry’s megatrends: sustainability, decarbonization, and electrification.
From the front bumper to the rear, from the body to the powertrain to safety-critical components. Our expertise is present in nearly all automotive assemblies—specifically:

For the past ten years, ultralights®has brought together our concentrated expertise in lightweight construction for forward-looking steel concepts: specifically, the field of high- and ultra-high-strength steels, modern hot-forming technologies, and component characteristics in car bodies, seat structures, and battery enclosures. ultralights® have become a driving force for innovation in the automotive industry, promoting efficiency, safety, and sustainability, and are also making significant contributions to the advancement of electric mobility. Lightweight construction increases the range of electric vehicles, and optimized battery enclosures protect their core components. The entire product portfolio is also available in the greentec steel Edition, offering dual sustainability benefits: through weight savings in the vehicle and a significantly lower carbon footprint in steel production. More information is available here: ultralights – Stähle für den automobilen Leichtbau
Our “door ring” consistently generates significant interest among industry experts, for example at automotive trade shows. It combines multiple structural components of different steel grades and thicknesses—from the front A-pillar to the middle B-pillar and beyond—into a single large component. This saves material, reduces the vehicle’s weight, and minimizes resource consumption. Engineers at three specialized locations have worked intensively on this project together: Linz, Bunschoten, and Schwäbisch Gmünd. The solution enables optimized crash performance, contributes to weight and cost reduction, simplifies body assembly, and simultaneously reduces the CO₂footprint. More information is available here: The phs-door ring: A milestone for modern body structures.
The up-and-coming British electric car startup Forseven has commissioned our Dutch subsidiary in Bunschoten to manufacture chassis parts—what a #FavoriteMoment for us! Forseven specializes in luxury electric SUVs that are produced entirely in Europe and are set to compete in the same league as Bentley and Range Rover.
Toolmaking ranks among the most demanding applications for steel overall, and we supply this sector with our high-performance steels—as the global market leader, by the way. Our stainless steels are used to manufacture critical components in drivetrain, engine, and fuel injection systems, which are also designed to withstand the extreme conditions of motor racing, such as Formula 1, IndyCar, DTM, and more. Specifically, these include: crankshafts, camshafts, gears, exhaust systems, drive shafts, and valves.
End-of-life vehicles are valuable sources of raw materials for modern steels, because steel is a recycling marvel. Steel can be reused time and time again with virtually no loss of quality. This is another reason why steel is one of the most frequently recycled materials worldwide. Together with the automotive industry, we are working to advance the circular economy. Our recycling projects with automotive industry clients and established processes, such as our #Bayernshuttle and the #Scrap Shuttle, clearly demonstrate where we’re already putting this into practice.
From the front bumper to the rear bumper of modern passenger cars—our expertise spans nearly all automotive assemblies. We support automakers and their suppliers with the full capabilities of our four divisions, enabling them to safely and economically offer sustainable, resource-efficient, and electrified mobility to people worldwide.
