Around a year ago, we at voestalpine Tubulars officially launched our product, VTS®-edgeTubes. With this flagship project, we have pushed the boundaries over the past year, driven forward the production and further development of VTS®-edgeTubes and successfully delivered the first orders. When we talk about our VTS®-edgeTubes, we can look back on a very successful year. It all started with the decision to turn "the round into square". And it has to be said that we have clearly succeeded in this step. Let's take a look back at the past year in hollow sections together.
To successfully complete a project of this magnitude, you need motivated and competent employees who give their best every day and work together towards a common goal. With almost every department involved in some way, we would like to highlight the fantastic teamwork and tireless motivation of our employees.
The biggest challenge to overcome was the integration of a new rolling line into existing and ongoing operations without causing major downtime or disruption. The integration of the hollow section mill into the existing line was a major milestone. Now we were able to turn a round pipe into a square one.

The next step was to build a new hall for the hollow sections finishing line, so that the new hollow sections could be optimally aligned, tested and ultimately shipped to our customers in top quality. A lot of preparatory work and infrastructure adjustments had to be made before the construction could actually take place. The parallel planning and implementation, as well as the management of time resources, proved to be critical tasks, but all were successfully completed.
Finally, the finishing line was installed. Here our VTS®-edgeTubes pass through several test benches where they are first tested and straightened before being cut to the required length. They are then marked by embossing and signing before the hollow sections are bundled, weighed and prepared for shipping.

In the first few months of the new year, we have already been on the road a lot and have presented our VTS®-edgeTubes at several trade fairs. In the coming weeks, voestalpine Tubulars will also be represented at several exhibitions. We want to convince potential customers of the unique product properties and show them the variety of applications for our hollow sections. Quality, reliability and innovation at first hand is the key message we want to convey to our visitors.

Despite the difficult conditions with regard to the European economy, we have already succeeded in booking our first orders in various segments. We are eager to expand our sales activities worldwide in the long term. From a technical perspective, it is important to get to know the areas of application in depth so that we can continue to develop our VTS®-edgeTubes accordingly.
The rapid implementation of the square and rectangular hollow sections at voestalpine Tubulars was a great success, which was excellently realized thanks to the commitment of our great team. Despite the challenging market situation, we have managed to establish a niche product in a very short time, which, in combination with our seamless round tubes, offers us additional market opportunities and further strengthens our position as an innovative seamless pipe manufacturer.
For me personally, we achieved something extraordinary last year. Our schedule was very ambitious right from the start and we knew that we had to be fast. Thanks to the great commitment of each individual, we finally managed to complete the project and launch our VTS®-edgeTubes in record time. There was hardly a department that was not involved in the implementation, and I think that gave the project a particularly likeable character. Since the fall of last year, we have been on the market intensively, visiting trade fairs, exploring opportunities and investigating potential. We are initially focusing on Europe, but are already expanding our networks worldwide.
The past year has impressively demonstrated to me what a professional and motivated team is capable of. Thanks to the tireless efforts in all areas of the plant, not only was the seamless, hot-rolled hollow section “VTS®-edgeTubes” added to the voestalpine Tubulars product family within a year - and during the ongoing production process - but all standard grades up to S890 according to DIN EN 10210, Grade C according to ASTM A501/A501M as well as customer-specific special grades were qualified. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues for their great commitment and especially our partners for the trust they have placed in the company and, by the same token, in the voestalpine Tubulars team. We will repay the trust placed in us with commitment, flexibility and innovative solutions.”
Last year was characterized by many positive experiences and events for me. We were able to tell a large number of customers about our new product, the VTS®-edgeTubes, during visits and at the TUBE trade fair in Düsseldorf, show them the first samples and thus arouse their enthusiasm for this product - but also bridge the time until the final start of production and the booking of the first order
The coming financial year offers us another opportunity to establish ourselves on the market with a still very young business segment and to prove ourselves as a preferred supplier of seamless hot-rolled hollow sections.
