As the second CIO in the history of voestalpine, Markus Schaal has significantly shaped the technological and personnel infrastructure as well as the strategic orientation of IT within the Group. His focus areas include a strong dialog between the IT organizational units, cybersecurity, the IT platform strategy as well as flexibility and synergies.
We want to understand the requirements of the business even better, build bridges and align IT with needs. “Discipline at the core – flexibility at the edge” should therefore always be our technological motto.
Markus Schaal, born in 1967 in Stuttgart (Germany), studied business administration in Saarbrücken, specializing in business informatics and organization. Through his internships, he discovered his passion for information technology and the opportunities and possibilities it offered. When he decided to apply for the position of CIO in 2022, the chemistry was right from the very first interview. With his many years of experience in IT-related top management positions at global companies, Markus Schaal now successfully manages the Group's IT agendas. The basic pillars of IT activities and the principle of “oneIT” are already being put into practice at group-IT. With Markus Schaal as Technical Managing Director, this connection will be further improved and the principles even more firmly anchored.
As the Group's central IT solution partner, group-IT has a decent scope of services and is stable and reliable. The positive developments and successes should be highlighted even more.
In his private life, the father of two adult children is a passionate fan of VfB Stuttgart. In his youth, he often went to ski training camps in Austria and is therefore still a enthusiastic skier today. Markus Schaal is also a passionate motorcyclist, but unfortunately he doesn't have time for that at the moment.
