70 Years of Apprenticeship Training at voestalpine in Krems
- 1
With the start of the new training year in early September, another 14 young people began their apprenticeships in Krems. They can choose from the following apprenticeship programs: metalworking/mechanical engineering, process engineering, and electrical engineering/plant and operations engineering. With a total of 1,000 apprentices in Austria, we are the country’s largest industrial apprenticeship provider. Worldwide, our group offers 1,500 young people a future-oriented apprenticeship.
As the world of work continues to change and become increasingly digitized, the apprenticeship program at voestalpine’s Krems site is also constantly evolving. Working with robotics and 3D printing, for example, is now an integral part of the technical training program and combines in-depth technical expertise with digital learning methods. The success of this approach is also evident in the performance of our Krems apprentices on their final apprenticeship exams: Over the past 20 years, the average pass rate has been nearly 100%. In addition to professional qualifications, the apprenticeship program at voestalpine offers a wide range of opportunities for personal and social development. Through a variety of personal development workshops, English courses, wellness programs, first-aid courses, field trips, and the annual Group Apprentice Day, the young people gain valuable experiences that extend beyond their respective trades.
We have always placed great importance on enabling young women to pursue technical apprenticeships. Female apprentices are now active in many of the Group’s 50 apprenticeship programs. Initiatives such as participating in Girls’ Day, attending career fairs, and visiting schools are intended to further support this trend in the future.
