Next level of quality assurance: our new testing center
- 1
With our futuristic testing center, we are setting new international standards in the quality testing of cold-rolled, hot-dip galvanized, electrolytically galvanized, and coated steel strips and electrical steel strips. From driverless transport systems and digital sample tracking to full integration into the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), the high degree of automation in our testing center is unparalleled in the industry. This also increases efficiency: throughput times that used to take several days now usually take less than eight hours.
All quality-related testing processes for the Linz cold strip division are bundled under one roof on two floors and a total of 4,300 m². This sets new standards in quality testing, as all process steps for the 59 test types, 117 sample geometries, and 150 testing and production systems are digitally mapped, enabling complete traceability. An average of around 85,000 tests and a further 100,000 are carried out directly on the production lines every month.
The testing center combines the highest product quality with consistent digitalization and automation of materials testing.
Around 70 employees in the fields of chemistry, physics, materials science, and manufacturing technology work together in a process-oriented manner in four test fields, in sample preparation, and in the test center’s research warehouse. The plant and IT technicians ensure that the test systems, devices, and all process steps run smoothly. Specific engineers are assigned to each individual test process and are responsible for stable processes and their further development. Our employees’ expertise is also used for special tests of new materials for research teams or customers.
