With safety in cabin construction: #FavoriteMoments that make Nathan proud
- 4
Nathan is 24. Even as a teenager, he was interested in scientific topics and at some point his passion for technology and industry took hold. This was during his apprenticeship, where he learned a lot about mechanics, welding and steel. Almost five years ago, he decided to continue his career in technology and joined us. He had only heard good things about voestalpine Sadef nv and because he lives not far from our Belgian site, he decided to become part of our team.
As a machine operator
At our site in Hooglede-Gits, we manufacture made-to-measure products that are given their final shape thanks to mandrel bending, free-form bending and 3D laser cutting, making our colleagues in Belgium specialists in tailor-made profile solutions for the mechanical engineering, construction and automotive industries. Nathan has a lot of responsibility, as the special profiles that are formed on his machine are used for safety components, e.g. in cab construction for excavators or tractors. The finished component undergoes a thorough quality control check – as it should be with safety-relevant components.
Technical understanding: from his point of view, this is the most important thing he needs for his job as a machine operator. Especially because the process is not always “easy”, but quite complex. New components in particular often require problem-solving skills in order to quickly and sustainably cure any “teething troubles” that occur. He works closely with his colleagues. “We exchange ideas and help each other – we pass on our knowledge and experience,” says Nathan about the team spirit. He appreciates transparent communication and the fact that his colleagues and superiors always have an open ear for his concerns. He confidently seeks advice when he doesn’t know what to do. “That makes for a good working atmosphere – work and fun are in balance here – that’s how it should be,” says Nathan happily.
Nathan experiences memorable moments time and time again. “One that I’m sure I’ll remember forever was when I saw a tractor in a field that I knew contained components made by us at Hooglede-Gits. It made me proud to know that our work plays a role in keeping agriculture moving around the world and providing people with food,” says Nathan of the moment when he really realized his contribution to a good life.
By ensuring precision and quality in machining, Nathan helps to produce reliable steel parts that are used in vehicles, agricultural machinery and industrial equipment. This ensures that people can drive safely, buildings are built stably and industries function efficiently. His work therefore has an indirect positive impact on the economy, transportation and even food production. For Nathan, it’s a great feeling to know that his work has a real impact on people’s lives.
In our new brand and image campaign #FavoriteMoments, we show our contribution to a modern, sustainable life from the perspective of people. We focus on their individual favorite moments and the commitment of our employees that makes such moments possible. The specially composed song “All these moments” accompanies the campaign and musically conveys our values, courage, community and our joy for the future and is authentically accompanied by pictures of our employees.
