Our 48,500 employees in more than 50 countries make us what we are: quality and world market leader in many segments. We encounter numerous steel products and projects that involve steel in our everyday lives, and they attest to the innovative capacity of our company and our employees: tourists visit the Atomium in Brussels, soccer fans cheer for Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, journalists admire a new luxury car at its presentation in Rome, and at the very same moment tourists visit the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. What do these events have in common? They all contain steel products made by voestalpine!
Employees shape the company
Every three years we conduct an employee survey and examine the voestalpine working environment. A high degree of employee loyalty, strong identification with the company, and a sense of pride in their workplace is both confirmation of our successful path and motivation to continue with a range of initiatives to improve further. Compulsory annual performance reviews, in which employees speak openly with their direct supervisor, are an important part of ensuring job satisfaction and identification with our products. Another factor in our success lies in the continuing professional development agreed on during the performance reviews: in the course of the business year 2015/16 alone we invested over EUR 50 million in employee training and further education.
Employees as co-owners
Our employees also share in the success of our company through our unique employee participation. Together, employees in Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland hold 14.5% of Group equity. The legal basis for extending the plan to other countries is constantly monitored.
