Further processing - heat treatment, surface treatment, assembly
The chemical composition of our steels does not determine all of a product’s properties. In many cases, products require extensive further processing to optimize either their performance or processing characteristics. Thanks to modern processing methods - ranging from heat and surface treatment to finishing - you receive wire products that precisely meet your requirements, including all relevant certificates and approvals.

In the rolling process, we rely on the following methods:
- Stelmor cooling (fast cooling, standard cooling, active slow cooling)
- Thermomechanical rolling
- Bainitic transformations induced by rolling heat
- Water cooling in the Garrett line
In the drawing mills, we have a wide range of additional processes available, depending on the diameter, which are carried out either in the open
or under protective gas:
- Annealing to spheroidal cementite (+AC)
- Tempering
- Soft annealing
- Annealing to specific strength/hardness
- Patenting in a lead bath
- Diffusion annealing (>1100 °C) for segregation equalization
- Diffusion annealing (>550 °C) for surface transformation
- Stress-relief annealing
-
We are constantly developing new solutions for surface treatments. Our goal is to provide environmentally neutral coatings for all applications. To this end, we maintain close development partnerships with private and public research institutions.
For wire rod, we offer the following options to ensure optimal surface properties:
- Roll-hard for mechanical or chemical descaling
- Pickled
- Phosphated
- Phosphate-free: Phosphate-free phreeco® coating for cold forming processes
- Chalked, soaped, polymer-coated
To ensure the quality of the wire rod surface, we operate a fully automated high-bay warehouse. This reduces the risk of mechanical damage and corrosion spots while securing and streamlining transport logistics.
The range of drawn wires is more diverse and is tailored to the requirements of the wire’s subsequent application:
- Pickled
- Phosphated
- Phosphate-free: Phreeco® phosphate-free coating for cold forming processes
- Calcined, soaped, polymer-coated
- Electrolytic and chemical coatings based on copper, brass, nickel, and zinc
- Hot-dip galvanizing
