“When the world comes together, we create a better tomorrow” – From October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, the world EXPO 2020 takes place in Dubai, UAE. Among many partners, voestalpine Railway Systems is also a part of this event.
In anticipation of the World Expo 2020 voestalpine Railway Systems is proud of its contributions towards this highly prestigious event and, in particular, to one of the main infrastructure projects of Expo 2020 – Dubai Metro Red Line extension, also known as Route 2020.
The 15 km long, double-track metro extension serves as the main transport link for the adjacent residential areas. Construction work started in 2016 and was largely completed in 2019. The new line was opened to the public on January 1, 2021 and will be fully operational on October 1, 2021 – the opening day for the world EXPO 2020.
voestalpine Railway Systems provided several products, including voestalpine Rail Technology’s rails of standard grade R260 and premium grade R350HT for the entire track, and voestalpine Signaling UK's Fixed Infrastructure Asset Monitoring (FIAM) System.
The FIAM system has been tested as part of an extensive collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai to improve preventive maintenance routines on existing and new metro lines and enable real-time switch condition monitoring and rail temperature measurement.
