World record on rails – and we’re part of it!

A milestone for public transport – and a proud moment for us as the Foundry Group:
Since the end of 2024, the longest tram in the world has been in operation. Measuring exactly 58.61meters, it connects Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, and Heidelberg – setting a new world record. The tram accommodates 368 passengers, is fully air-conditioned, and reaches speeds of up to 80km/h – both in urban and regional transit.

This so-called 38T “ForCity Smart” was manufactured by the Czech company Škoda Group, with the goal of setting new standards for sustainable, comfortable, and high-performance mobility. And right at the heart of it: our cast components. They play a crucial role in the construction and function of this innovative tram.

With our foundry expertise, we help meet complex requirements for quality, safety, and durability – especially in the mobility sector, where every component must withstand extreme loads. This project is a powerful demonstration of how modern steel casting from our group is integrated into cutting-edge transport systems.
