Perfect preparation for working life: Christoph’s #FavoriteMoments in Apprenticeship Training

Christoph started with us in 2000 as one of the first mechatronics apprentices in our group and immediately went on to attend the foreman school. Professionally, he was responsible for plant conversions, revisions, and plant approvals for the power supply at the Linz site before moving to the training center in 2018. There, he supports the apprentices with his broad expertise in the fields of metal technology, electrical engineering, and control technology for almost the entire first year of their apprenticeship and provides them with technical knowledge in various specialist modules.

The goal of our apprenticeship program is clear: we want to produce skilled workers who understand our operating facilities and are able to tackle challenges in an insightful, structured, and solution-oriented manner.

A precise teacher

Whether in the classroom, in the workshop, or during practical repairs, his goal is to enable his “protégés” to work independently and precisely. He gives them incentives for how to solve a task, but at the same time attaches great importance to the apprentices developing their own solutions. Christoph also trains them in precise, almost perfect manual work by having them not just practice, but work specifically on a concrete assignment. At the same time, he promotes teamwork among them—an interaction that is of central importance in professional life. His #FavoriteMoments are when “his” apprentices return to the training center after their final apprenticeship exam and cheer, “We did it!”

We are looking for people who enjoy tackling complex challenges in our diverse operating facilities and mastering them with professional competence, creativity, and a solution-oriented approach.

Standing up for each other

He develops teamwork together with his apprentices at numerous personality-building events and sporting events. Last year, his running team for the Linz Three Bridges Run already included 150 apprentices. And the good team spirit even helped the voestalpine team win the “Upper Austrian Apprentice Cup 2025.”

For me, mutual respect and a good working environment are important. And voestalpine looks after its employees.
