An overview of the wire rod manufacturing process

voestalpine Wire Technology produces wire rod in an integrated process - from crude steel processing to the finished product. Since 2016, production has been carried out at the world's most modern wire rolling mill, with a focus on precision, efficiency, and sustainability. Production includes surface and heat treatment as well as automated logistics systems. A GPS-supported high-bay warehouse supports supply security. The extended dimensional range up to 60 mm and modern processes enable a flexible response to market requirements.

The raw material is stored in the billet yard and fed into the walking beam furnace via the charging process, where it is heated to rolling temperature.

In the rolling mill, the steel is formed into wire, which is then wound into coils via a coiler and roller conveyor. These pass through the coil handling system for labeling and preparation for subsequent processes.

Quality assurance takes place in the inspection facility, followed by thermal treatment in the annealing line and surface cleaning in the pickling line.

Finally, the wire rod is sent to the storage, where it is prepared for worldwide logistics.
