Sustainability

At voestalpine Specialty Metals, we provide high-performance alloys that are built to last, reducing downtime, replacements, and waste in demanding oil and gas environments. Through our inSPire sustainability program, we’re also committed to reducing emissions across our supply chain, expanding the use of green energy and electric melting, and sourcing responsibly with large-scale recycling efforts.

Because when your materials last longer, so does the planet.

The new special steel plant

The new special steel plant in Kapfenberg, Austria, is setting new standards in terms of environmental protection: the heart of the plant – an electric arc furnace that melts high-purity scrap in combination with various alloy metals to produce stainless steels – is powered by 100% green electricity. In addition, an efficient recovery system ensures that the heat generated is fed into the public district heating network. As far as cooling the production facilities is concerned, the amount of cooling water required can be reduced by up to 90 percent thanks to closed circuits.

voestalpine BÖHLER Edelstahl awarded the platinum medal for the top 1% of companies rated by EcoVadis over the previous 12 months.

INSPIRE

Our goals are clear, we seek to make considerable contributions in the areas of circular economy and climate impact. This is why we have developed our very own sustainability framework outlining our four focus topics and respective sustainability actions while addressing all pillars of sustainability.
