There's no such thing as failure: voestalpine VACCINATES

1 May 2021 |

In spring 2021, after more than a year of the pandemic, the time had finally come: The first vaccines against the coronavirus came onto the market – and the rush was correspondingly great. Nevertheless, voestalpine managed to reserve a quota of vaccine doses for its employees.

Now a tool for the organizational handling had to be created within a very short time. Not only a quick decision on the technologies to be used (Java, React as well as Bootstrap) had to be made quickly, but many important issues such as data protection topics, security and the estimated rush on the login system to be developed had to be clarified. This required tremendous flexibility from everyone involved.

"We worked through seven weeks, across company boundaries and also all departments involved worked perfectly with us," explains the project manager on the part of group-IT. In addition to project management and developers, support was provided by the legal department, occupational health, network experts, the service desk and the connectivity team. Representatives from the Steel Division also played a key role in the implementation. A web application was created that enables registration, vaccination appointment allocation and appointment management, including cancellation options, as well as supporting the entire vaccination process for voestalpine occupational medicine.

The prompt go-live after the fixed commitment of the vaccination doses was a success. On the first morning, more than 1,200 employees secured an appointment.

I agreed to take part in the project so that I myself could make an active contribution to the pandemic. The vaccinations could not fail because of IT!

The conclusion of the project manager

And it didn't - the project was a complete success.
