Caused by the severe operating conditions of the project matters, voestalpine Grobblech was challenged to fulfill most stringent requirements in respect to Charpy toughness in combination with a high wall thickness, guaranteed tensile strength and minimum yield strength.

By utilizing the full potential of toughcore®, we have again stepped beyond the current limitations and now explore new environments in the offshore regions.

Requirements for the particular order:

Steel grade:

S460 G2+M

Plate thickness:

120 mm

Toughness:

CVN test temperature of -40°C

Tensile test:

required

Yield strength:

min. 400 MPa

Test position:

½ thickness

Prequalification according to EN 10225:

voestalpine Grobblech GmbH now supplies plates with the required properties up to a thickness of 120 mm prequalified - according to EN 10225 option 18.

The superb material properties of toughcore® and the finest microstructure throughout the entire cross section of thick plates guarantee highest safety levels during operation of offshore platforms and jackets, even at very low temperatures and in the exploration of frontier projects.

Current jacket structures meet extraordinary requirements in X and K joints with regard to stress, buckling, yield strength and toughness. The design of these components can be optimized using high-strength toughcore® with sufficient wall thickness and excellent toughness. This allows higher loads and increased safety levels.

Our new generation of thermomechanically rolled (TMCP) steel is manufactured in a completely new and patented process that enables unique combinations of properties with respect to thickness, strength, excellent toughness and best weldability.
