The Heavy Point Switch (HPS®) is a drop in replacement switch point / stock rail pair that is compatible with all turnout geometries, regardless of the original manufacturer. It was designed as a means to strengthen and substantially extend the life of the switch point.

How it works
The cross section drawings show the heavy point switch at 6” and 12” back from the tip, with the solid line indicating a conventional switch point / stock rail pair. The dashed line indicates the additional material “borrowed” from the stock rail and applied to the switch point, resulting in a more robust system. While the thickening of the point continues throughout its length, it is most critical at the vulnerable area near the tip.
