A press trip was taken on 23 July and two leading Upper Austrian companies presented their close cooperation: The BMW Group production facility in Steyr will be relying on the highly innovative isovac® electrical steel of voestalpine for the next generation of electric drives. This is a strong signal of technological excellence, regional value creation and sustainable mobility.

The BMW Group and voestalpine enjoy a long-standing and successful collaboration in the field of e-mobility. A new chapter begins with the new Gen6 electric motor, which is manufactured in Steyr: voestalpine electrical steel in premium quality and state-of-the-art coating technology form the heart of the rotors and stators of these highly efficient drives. In the future, these engines will drive the vehicles of the new class, a milestone in the transformation of the automotive industry.

With its high-quality steel products, voestalpine is an important partner for the automotive industry worldwide. We stand for innovative strength, quality and customer loyalty. As a long-term supplier of BMW, we are proud to take our partnership to the next level. The supply of our premium electrical steel to the Steyr facility for the Neue Klasse engines from BMW is proof of our common drive for innovation and an important step into the future of electromobility.
Hubert Zajicek, Member of the Management Board of voestalpine AG and Head of the Steel Division
isovac® electrical steel enables the production of high-performance drives with the following:
Minimized energy loss thanks to special alloys and innovative coating systems
Increased torque and power through higher magnetic flux density
Reduced weight and increased energy efficiency resulting from high strength and high permeability
These properties make isovac® the ideal material for modern electric motors as well as the key to greater range, performance and sustainability.
Another key factor: Environmental responsibility along the entire supply chain. The regional proximity between Linz and Steyr reduces transport emissions, while voestalpine scores with a clear roadmap in CO₂ optimization.

Our cooperation with voestalpine comes from our choosing a steel manufacturer that relies on future-oriented production standards
Klaus von Moltke, Managing Director in the BMW Group in Steyr
This cooperation impressively demonstrates how regional cooperation can set global standards. Two technology leaders are pooling their forces to actively shape the mobility of tomorrow - efficiently and sustainably.
