EMPHASIS ON SUSTAINABILITY

Anyone who works on an environmentally friendly future needs a lot of help from trustworthy partners who can provide independent assessments of green-future investments.

TWO OF THE MOST RENOWNED SUSTAINABILITY INDICES

voestalpine is the only European steelmaking enterprise to have been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index since the end of 2021.

This exclusive list includes companies who, based on long-term assessment, have achieved a high level of excellence in their economic, ecological and social activities.

In 2020, the voestalpine Group was included in the FTSE4GOOD sustainability index, which provides investors interested in preserving the environment with a professional basis for making investment decisions.

CARBON-NEUTRAL PRODUCTION BY 2050

Since the summer of 2022, voestalpine has been participating in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Emphasis is placed here on achieving the climate targets of the World Climate Agreement in Paris.
Roughly 3000 companies worldwide participate in this sustainability initiative. In a subsequent step, voestalpine has put plans in place to significantly reduce direct and indirect emissions by 2030. From 2050 at the latest, the production processes of voestalpine will be completely carbon-neutral.

RESPONSIBLE FOR 200 SUSTAINABILITY CRITERIA

In 2021, the voestalpine Steel Division at the Linz site became one of the first steelmakers worldwide to be certified by experts at ResponsibleSteel, a non-profit organization.

LRQA, an independent certification company, implements a highly systematic approach based on 200 criteria and audits activities such as the sustainable procurement of raw materials, emission reduction as well as compliance with employee and human rights.

HIGHEST DISTINCTION AWARDED BY ECOVADIS

With a platinum ranking in 2022, voestalpine Stahl GmbH achieved the highest-possible distinction in the EcoVadis sustainability rating, performing better than 99 percent of all participating companies. A total of more than 90,000 companies in over 160 countries have been assessed with respect to their environmental, social and ethics-based activities. The evaluation is carried out in four categories: Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

Levels of sustainability at a company are most transparent when processes are inspected as closely as possible by independent experts. I like it!
