INTERACTIVE AND INNOVATIVE: THE NEW greentec steel MAP
The decarbonization of steel production is in full swing with greentec steel in the voestalpine Steel Division in Linz. As an example, the first electric arc furnace (EAF) will go into operation in Linz in 2027. In order to provide interested parties outside the company with insights, make construction progress more tangible and make our project more visible, the Steel Division has created a virtual and informative platform called the greentec steel Map. From a bird's-eye perspective, users are provided with an overview of the entire plant site and can see an accurate picture of what measures have been implemented, when and where, as well as those to be implemented in the future.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AT THE CLICK OF A MOUSE
greentec steel, Austria's biggest environmental protection program, has the ambitious target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The greentec steel Map shows clearly, simply and transparently how far the Steel Division has come in implementing this major project.
An electric steelmaking plant, new infrastructure or use of energy—every measure is presented in detail with exciting background information.

FASCINATING FACTS
Who says technology can't be exciting? The map features a great deal of numbers and data, but users can also learn a lot of fun facts. A couple of facts, for example, that are fun to know is that the maximum filling weight of a scrap bucket is that of two Boeing 737, and that the diameter of the scrap bucket is the same as that of the fuselage of a Boeing 777. Or did you know that the new electric steelmaking plant has a volume of 430,000 cubic meters? That is more than the volume of 5000 swimming pools!
FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY
Our interactive map is more than just a digital toy. It is a living proof that greentec steel is not only a vision of the future, but one that is already becoming a reality. Here you can see in black on white—or green on green—how voestalpine is actively working on a carbon-free future.

Take a good look at this impressive climate change mitigation—digital, interactive and full of exciting details. The map makes our quest for green steel easy to understand.
