Strong connections do not happen by themselves. That is as true for welding as it is for partnerships, they are built on trust, precision, and shared values. For many years, Kobelco Welding of Europe (KWE) and voestalpine Steel Division have been closely connected through a shared commitment to quality, reliability, and sustainability. 

This long-standing cooperation now enters a new phase. With CO₂‑reduced steel from the greentec steel Edition, the two companies are further strengthening their partnership and setting a clear course toward more sustainable industrial value. 

A QUALITY PARTNER FOR EUROPE'S INDUSTRY

Kobelco Welding of Europe B.V. (KWE), based in the Netherlands, is part of the global Kobe Steel Group and is one of Europe's leading manufacturers of flux cored wires. KWE’s products are used in a variety of industrial applications - anywhere reliable and high-quality welds matter. 

For KWE, sustainability is not a promise for the future, it is a daily commitment. The company uses green wind power, invests in modern, energy-efficient machines, and uses heat recovery systems to use resources more efficiently.

TOGETHER FOR A "GREEN FUTURE"

For many years, KWE and voestalpine have worked closely together, united by technical expertise and a high level of mutual trust. KWE uses voestalpine cold‑rolled steel to manufacture different mild-steel products distinguished by their consistent quality and performance.

A major component of the new cooperation is KWE’s decision to switch their high-quality non-alloy steel to 100% greentec steel Edition. Since April 2026, the delivered steel strip used as the basis for the Kobelco TRUSTARC™ products will be CO2-reduced material from voestalpine. The greentec steel Edition offers the same premium quality as regular voestalpine Steel, but with a significantly lower carbon footprint.

The cooperation also promises an expansion of the partnership, for example by:

  • expanding the greentec steel Edition to more product lines
  • working together on projects for CO₂-optimization along the value chain
  • analyzing data to reduce emissions
  • open communication about sustainable steel and weld solutions for industrial partners in Europe.

This partnership shows that sustainable transformation works best when strong industrial partners share responsibility - together.

When CO₂-reduced steel meets efficient production and high-quality welding technology, the effect is real. That is exactly where the path to more sustainable industry begins.
