DURABLE STEEL IN THE NEW voestalpine PLAZA
What started out as a community idea is now a favorite place to go alongside the Danube: The voestalpine Plaza in Linz-Urfahr is now open, and it happens to be Austria's largest and most modern skatepark. More than 200 square meters of CO₂-reduced steel sheet in our greentec steel Edition have been installed with support from our apprentices and active participation by members of our own shape-cutting facility in the Steel & Service Center. Sustainability is not just a byword. It’s something we practice every day.
FROM A RESIDENT'S PETITION TO A DREAM COME TRUE
The impetus was a resident's petition that came from the skater scene in Linz, and the skaters themselves worked together with BMX and inline communities on the design of a skatepark that combines sports, modern design and urban culture. 2,500 square meters of space and 18 precisely matched obstacles ensure flow and progress from transitions and curbs to rails and centerpieces.
The fact that the park on the Danube is now the largest and most modern in the country says a lot. It means that a lot more than concrete and steel becomes possible when a city, a community and an industry work together on a creative project.

STEEL WITH A HIGHER MEANING: greentec steel EDITION
Our greentec steel Edition combines robustness and responsibility. More than 200 square meters of premium steel in the greentec steel Edition provide the shapes of edges, kicks and curbs while reducing the carbon footprint of the project. The park reflects what Linz has always stood for—industrial DNA with a clear vision of the future.
ENGINEERING, TECHNOLOGY, CONSTRUCTION: TEAM PLAY IN LINZ
In close collaboration with the skater scene in Linz, the park was designed by Darko Stevanovic, engineered by Stadt+ and built by good crete. The City of Linz, employees at voestalpine and Hartl Metall, a long-standing customer, were all proud to be involved in the project. The result is a place that can be calm or pulsating, depending on the lighting situation, and subtly stages the industrial identity of the city.LEARNING BY DOING DURING THE PROJECT
We are particularly proud of the dedication of our apprentices, who were involved in the assembly. They were able to experience firsthand how materials, planning and teamwork can create a place that attracts people. What a great example of sustainability with hands-on, collaborative and future-oriented training!

From resident petition to a favorite space: skater scene energy meets greentec steel at the voestalpine Plaza. It’s wonderful to watch Linz move sustainably into the future.
