CLEAN COLLABORATION
What do sustainable steel production and modern laundry technology have in common? More than you might think at first glance.
By signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Schulthess Maschinen AG and the voestalpine Steel Division have taken a significant step forward: together, both companies intend to explore how CO2-reduced premium steel from the greentec steel Edition can be used in Schulthess washing machines and dryers in the future.
SWISS PRECISION MEETS SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL TECHNOLOGY
Since 1845, Schulthess has stood for high-quality laundry technology and authentic "Swiss Made" quality. At its production site in the Zurich Highlands, the company develops and manufactures washing machines, dryers and system solutions for private households, apartment buildings and professional applications. One mindset has shaped the company for generations: innovation rooted in tradition.
For its durable and elegantly crafted exterior designs, Schulthess relies on high-quality hot-dip galvanized steel grades that ensure modern aesthetics, resilience and long-lasting stability. In areas subject to particularly high stress where hygiene and durability are essential, chrome steel is also used.

The materials are designed for longevity, repairability and high recyclability. Depending on the application, Schulthess tests its machines for up to 40,000 wash cycles—a clear sign of quality and resource conservation.
This philosophy underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability: Schulthess continuously reduces energy and water consumption, is pursuing climate-neutral production by 2030 and has set long-term Net-Zero goals across its entire value chain.
greentec steel AS THE NEXT STEP
At the same time, voestalpine is driving the transformation of steel production with greentec steel. Products from the greentec steel Edition are already available today: premium steel with a reduced carbon footprint, externally verified and transparently documented.
The newly agreed collaboration with Schulthess is therefore a logical step with a clear goal: to further reduce emissions along the entire value chain—from the steel itself to the finished laundry technology.
TOGETHER FOR A SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRY
For both companies, the MoU is more than just a formal agreement. It marks a shared ambition: to combine industrial quality with sustainable transformation. The partnership demonstrates how progress is made when material expertise, technology and long-term thinking come together.

When sustainable materials meet long-lasting product concepts, real impact is created. This is exactly where our cooperation with Schulthess begins.
