Highly wear-resistant hard manganese steel from hot-rolled steel strip

Components are exposed to extreme impact and abrasion loads in safety applications as well as in the extraction and processing of raw materials. durostat® HM sets new standards where conventional steels fail. durostat® HM is the hot-rolled hard manganese steel made by voestalpine and developed precisely for this purpose: reliably, resistant and sustainable with premium quality and a reduced carbon footprint.

Safety meets innovation - your partner in safety engineering

durostat® HM is your best choice when it comes to maximum safety. The low material hardness in as-delivered condition (roughly 220 HB) makes durostat® HM easy to process. Impact and pressure during use increase the hardness  near the surface up to 600 HB. Deeper areas remain ductile. Typical applications are security transport vehicles, vaults and security doors, where durostat® HM protects against violent attacks or breakthroughs.

durostat® HM is highly convincing

Whether jaw crushers, blow bars or armor: durostat® HM withstands even the toughest impact and abrasion loads. The hardness increases in use to up to 600 HB, while deeper layers remain tough for maximum service life and safety.

Processability meets wear resistance

In delivered condition, durostat® HM has a moderate hardness of roughly 220 HB, which makes machining in your production operations much easier. The material is suitable for plasma, laser and shear cutting as well as bending and drilling. Its favorable malleability allows the production of complex geometries without high tool wear, which is why professionals are happy to rely on this steel.

Thanks to the austenitic microstructure, durostat® HM is characterized by very good weldability in common techniques such as MSG and manual electric welding. You can plan your welds on durostat® HM with the highest precision using the voestalpine Welding Calculator app or desktop version. The Welding Calculator helps you calculate cooling times, preheating temperatures and quantities of consumables.
