Components

Food processing components require approved corrosion-resistant BÖHLER stainless steels with high surface quality and hygiene performance. Key quality features include ultra-clean materials, full traceability, controlled heat treatment, and verified cleanability for safe operation.

Components used in food and beverage processing must meet stringent requirements regarding hygiene, corrosion resistance, and mechanical performance. Materials are exposed to cleaning chemicals, moisture, temperature variations, and mechanical stresses, while also requiring full compliance with strict food safety regulations. Key material requirements include excellent corrosion resistance, resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking, high surface quality, and ease of cleaning to prevent contamination. In addition, materials must maintain their mechanical integrity and dimensional stability over long service periods.

BÖHLER high-performance steels and alloys are specifically developed for these demanding sanitary environments. Austenitic, martensitic, and precipitation-hardened stainless steels are widely used due to their excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and polishability. Optimized chemical composition and advanced melting technologies ensure high purity and homogeneous microstructures, supporting superior surface finish and hygiene performance. Key quality features include strict control of composition, certified traceability, and validated heat treatment processes. Surface integrity, cleanability, and resistance to cleaning agents are verified through comprehensive testing. BÖHLER materials enable safe, durable, and compliant solutions for critical components in food and beverage processing.

  • BÖHLER N700

BÖHLER N700 is a high-quality corrosion-resistant steel in aerospace quality, in the form of bars, wire and forgings with a diameter/thickness of up to 203 mm in the solution-annealed condition, as well as starting material of any size for forging purposes. It is a martensitic, precipitation-hardenable chromium-nickel-copper steel with high strength and toughness. Further increases in strength can be achieved by cold forming and subsequent precipitation hardening. These products are typically used for parts requiring corrosion resistance and high strength up to 316°C. However, their use is not limited to such applications. However, use is not limited to such applications. Certain processing methods and operating conditions can cause these products to become susceptible to stress corrosion cracking. For applications such as bolting where stress corrosion cracking is possible, the product should be aged for a minimum of 4 hours at the highest temperature compatible with the strength requirements, but in no case lower than 552°C.

  • Uddeholm RoyAlloy

Uddeholm RoyAlloy is a high-performance stainless mould base tool steel designed to deliver exceptional durability and efficiency in demanding tooling environments. It is developed to meet the requirements of mould bases and moulds where demands on surface finish, service life, and corrosion resistance are more moderate. The material offers an attractive balance between performance, machinability, and cost, making it a competitive option for standard applications in the plastics industry. Benefits Unlike conventional stainless steels, RoyAlloy is supplied in a pre-hardened condition of approximately 30 HRC, eliminating the need for additional heat treatment. This significantly reduces lead times and production costs while ensuring dimensional stability throughout machining and finishing processes. RoyAlloy’s superior corrosion resistance sets it apart in applications where moisture or humid environments can compromise tool life. By minimizing rust and surface degradation, it ensures longer service intervals and reduced maintenance costs. The material’s homogeneous structure and stable mechanical properties provide good dimensional stability and sufficient strength for applications involving short to medium production runs or less demanding plastics. The steel’s weldability and repairability further enhance its value, allowing easy maintenance and extending tool lifespan.
