greentec steel at the Linz site

We are making good progress toward the next generation of steel production and are on track to commission a green-power-driven electric arc furnace at our Linz site in the first half of 2027. We are building a steel mill here in the midst of production facilities operating at high capacity, which presents major logistical challenges.

While operations continue, work is underway on more than 20 individual projects simultaneously—a truly unique feat.
These include, among other things, extensive site clearance to secure the new supply of raw materials, as well as the construction and expansion of the scrap yard, rail infrastructure, and material-handling equipment.

In addition to constructing a hall for the electric arc furnace, the project involved expanding the power supply with a 220-kV connection—including new substations and transformer stations—building a microtunnel, and installing a pneumatic tube system to enable the analysis of steel samples within minutes in the new high-tech testing laboratory.

More than 500 suppliers were contracted for this major project, over 90 percent of whom are based in Austria. greentec steel is thus not only a technological transformation project but also a significant driver of value creation for the location and the region.
