Environment - Our Responsibility and Contribution

As a manufacturing company in an inherently resource-intensive industry, we have a special responsibility to the public, our employees, customers and suppliers to operate sustainably and to conserve finite resources.

We look critically at all processes in the value chain for their direct impact on resources and on our planet. Many activities have already been planned for our future, and we are working hard to become the most sustainable organization in our industry.

Read about the areas we are focusing on and how we are contributing to a more sustainable world below.

Multiple certified & awarded

To help our customers achieve their sustainability goals, we are proud to be certified by a variety of independent organizations. Certificates are more than a formal requirement. They inspire us to continue our journey towards greater sustainability with even greater determination.

EcoVadis Platinum Certification

EcoVadis is a sustainability-rating agency with a network of more than 100,00 rated companies. The sustainability rating methodology is an assessment of how well a company has integrated sustainability/CSR principles into its business and management system. The overall EcoVadis score reflects the quality of the company's sustainability management system.

We decided to participate in the EcoVadis assessment in order to communicate our commitment to climate protection in a standardized and transparent way.

This year, for the second time, we underwent EcoVadis' strict evaluation guidelines and are pleased to announce that our production sites in Kapfenberg, Austria, Cittadella, Italy and Hamm and Eisenberg, Germany have been awarded Platinum status.

The Platinum certification shows that we at voestalpine Böhler Welding take our social responsibility very seriously. We are aware that our business activities have an impact on the environment. We are proud of our actions and strategic direction having been recognized as exceptional and above average.

Success Story - Production Plant in Malmö, Sweden

Our manufacturing facility in Malmö, Sweden, sets standards in sustainability in many ways. We are proud to share some of the highlights:

  • Electrical energy consumption for the entire plant*: 186 kWh/ton
  • Its own production from solar panels: 9.8 %
  • External production EPD® certified wind power: 90.2 %
  • The building has a sophisticated control system that adapts ventilation and lighting to current needs. Combined with the best energy-efficient equipment, this also keeps consumption to a minimum.
  • No wastewater is discharged from the factory.
  • All exhaust air from production is cleaned of chemical vapors.
  • Acid levels in the exhaust air are below the detection limits of instrumentation*.
  • Fluorides and nitrates from the air cleaning process are reused in production, saving both the environment and money.
