Castings for energy applications (< 10 tons)

We are a renowned supplier to the energy sector and comply with applicable international norms. The used materials are creep-resistant and cryogenic special steels with special properties. Castings in nickel-based alloys complete the portfolio. Finish-machined parts and component manufacturing allow supply of ready-to-install castings.

The maximum weight of castings for the energy industry is roughly 10 tons. Because the parts find their applications worldwide, they are manufactured and certified in compliance with both EN and ASTM norms and standards.

Steam turbines

Our components for steam turbines have been certified by all renowned steam turbine manufacturers. Some examples of these innovative products are as follows: valves, interior housings, admission ports, seal housings, elbows, covers, vane supports

Gas-driven turbines

Our ready-to-install special parts for gas-driven turbines with customer-determined specifications are in high demand. Examples of special parts: vane supports, diffusors, bearing and exterior housings, seal rings

Water turbines

Based on our many years of experience and our high-quality metallurgical equipment, we are a reliable partner for all renowned turbine manufacturers. We manufacture castings for Francis, Kaplan and Pelton water turbines, including hubs, collars, Pelton wheel buckets, guide blades and adjusting cranks

Oil and gas

voestalpine Giesserei Traisen GmbH is specialized in the application of cryogenic materials. We have been supplying the international oil-field equipment industry for decades with ready-to-install and pre-assembled components. Examples of these products are as follows: compressor housings, compressors, blowout preventers, valves, bearing housings, expander housings.

Nickel-based materials

voestalpine Giesserei Traisen GmbH was heavily involved in the development of this product group for foundries. Nickel-based materials are characterized by high load-carrying capacity at high temperatures and pressures. Areas of application include, for example, steam-driven power plants that operate at 700 °C. Valves and admission ports are examples of successful nickel-based products.

Broad range of products and services

All of the industry-specific materials are found in our product range. We are also in a position to develop new and complex alloys for special customer requirements and extreme applications, for example in nickel-based alloys for the achievement of higher degrees of efficiency. All of the castings are available in pre-ground or in finish-machined condition. Ready-to-install parts save our customers time and money. Deposit welding and pressure testing round off our portfolio.

Clad plates

Roll-bonded clad plates are the economic alternative to expensive high-alloy and non-clad plates. The mechanical properties of the base material are optimally combined with the corrosion resistance of the cladding material.

Our roll-bonded clad plates and heads are found in chemical equipment applications and refineries, in the oil and gas industry, coke drums and the food industry. Clad plates are also used in seawater desalination and flue gas desulfurization plants.


Clad plates consist of a base and a cladding material.

The base materials for our clad plates are produced exclusively in our own steelmaking plant in Linz. Cladding materials are purchased in the form of slabs and sheets from renowned manufacturers.

The base materials are predominantly made of structural steels, steels for boilers and pressure vessels and fine-grained structural steels, all of which are characterized by good weldability and formability.

Cladding materials are made of ferritic and austenitic stainless steels, nickel and nickel-based alloys, copper and copper-nickel alloys, all of which have excellent anti-corrosive properties.

The base material surfaces are generally delivered in as-rolled or shot-blasted condition.

In almost all instances, the surface of the cladding material is polished. Our standard polish is 80 grain. Other grain sizes are available upon request.

Clad linepipe plates

We are the world's largest producer of roll-bonded clad linepipe plates. The highest sour-gas requirements are met by our roll-bonded clad linepipe plates with corrosion-resistant cladding.

Sour-gas-resistant linepipe plates

The sour gases occurring in the linepipes used for the transport of oil and gas are highly corrosive. Only the highest-quality materials are capable of withstanding this aggressive medium. As a leading provider of sour-gas-resistant linepipe plates worldwide, we supply linepipes with corrosion-resistant cladding for specific applications.

Protective cladding material

The base material is decisive in the production of linepipes. Our roll-bonded clad plates are extremely strong, tough and resistant to corrosion as a result of their cladding material. Materials such as our X65 product with nickel-based alloy 625 provide the optimum physical properties. Our pipe partners process these materials into metallurgically bonded clad linepipes.

Elements of the highest quality

The metallurgical bonding of the clad linepipes withstands the highest mechanical stress and dynamic loads, making the pipes especially suited to deep-sea applications under highly corrosive conditions.

Linepipe plates

voestalpine Grobblech GmbH is one of the world's leading producers of sour-gas-resistant linepipe plates. We specialize in modern thermomechanical rolling technology with accelerated cooling.

Specialist for extreme conditions

Extremely low arctic temperatures, extreme pressures in the deep ocean, acid media: Even the most difficult conditions have no negative effect on our linepipe plates. Our plates are found in depths of up to 3,000 meters below the sea surface, either in the form of sour-gas-resistant linepipe plates or as land lines up to 48 inches (1,220 mm) in diameter. We also offer roll-bonded clad linepipe plates with a corrosion-resistant cladding for the highest demands in sour-gas application. As a specialist in modern thermomechanical rolling technology with accelerated cooling, we are among the world's industry leaders. Our linepipe plates are thermomechanically rolled and accelerated-cooled. All grades available upon request as sour-gas-resistant at pH3 or pH5 according to NACE TM 0284 Solution A and B. All grades can be delivered with notched-bar impact and Battelle test (BDWTT) at temperatures below 0 °C. HIC tests for sour-gas applications upon request.
